Sparrow Invasion …the legend from the Sparrows of Ulm
2001
Children suffering from tumor, leukemia and cardiac diseases took part in the fantastic art project called “Spatzen Invasion (transl. Sparrow Invasion)”. Initiated from Ralf Milde, the culture manager from the City of Ulm, with this art project to collect money, the Ulmer Muenster restauration was supported.
These two artistic birds, with a length of six feet and a wing span of four feet were called ”Hand and Feet”. They are symbolizing the collaboration between the two associations “Tumor and Leukemia Children” and “Cardiac Children of Ulm”.
The project was created and guided by the Ulm Artist Petra Kneissle. In a first step, the little stationary patients at the University Hospital Ulm printed their hands and feet on the two birds. In a follow up process, the same was done by their siblings and children from the “Michelsberg” elementary school. In the end the project consisted of colorfully imprinting the birds’ dresses with the hands and feet of all the participating children.
